Alpha -lipoic acid is used in antiaging cosmetic products to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on skin. Alpha-lipoic acid has powerful antioxidant that is known to diminish the effects of free radical damage to skin and prevent and reduce visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. ALA creams and gels used in research generally have an ALA concentration in the range of 1% to 5%. Most ALA skin care products include ALA with a mix of other ingredients that moisturize skin and help prevent photo-aging. Some researchers recommend applying a 1% to 4% ALA cream or gel every second day for 3 weeks prior to using it daily.
